thanks for your reply i havent seen the word in written form only heard it and that's what it sounded like...may even be spelt differently..the reason for my question is i have a spirit guide whom i believe to be a masai shamen and this is how he described his companion animal which is a large cat with spots...any ideas please.

Thanks for your question - Now if you had asked about dubu, inzi or mendes I could have helped you or even kipipeo would be easy.
However it seems the 'umbobo' is certainly not Swahili from Kenya.
But I did a little online digging and you can take your pick from the following
A pop groups name - appear to be from South Africa
A way of burping after a good meal
A mythical island in the Pacific
