Perfume
by: Cassandra Maire

Hello,
I would agree with the previous post. It is ok to wear perfume in most places in Kenya. Personal I have used it all three years I have gone and many of my US and my Kenyan friends ask me to bring them some when I come for a visit.

Personally I can not live without it. There is something about feeling like you are all put together add the fact you are traveling make is even more needed in my eyes. As long as she is not flashing the bottle every time she sprays it then it is ok. So have a good trip and enjoy smelling fresh.

Not dangerous at all...
by: Arjen (webmaster)

Hi Roy, I assume you are asking because your wife does not want to draw any unwanted attention to herself? In general you are totally safe inside Kenyan hotels. The midrange and especially upmarket hotels have guards outside the doors, or are even inside gated communities. The staff is screened and very helpful and friendly. They would be severly punished for any misbehaviour, and loose their jobs. I never heard of misbehaviour of hotel/resort staff towards guests (while there probably are a few exceptions to the rule).

In general, in Kenya, those Kenyans that aren't criminals (99%) hate criminals just as much as you do and they will be glad to tell you how and where you can be safe. You can trust what hotel and shop staff tell you, and you can generally also trust taxi drivers. Moreover, Nairobi and other cities are full of private guards (askaris) and most (if not all) resorts have fences and guards too. I stayed in low-budget resorts too which had 24/7 guards. Kenyans are very aware of the security concerns that Westerners have.
