Visiting the national parks without a car?

by Josh

Hi there, I'm off to Kenya this summer, but unfortunately as a student I'm unable to afford the costly exspense of an organized safari.

I want to visit the national parks, but since I am unabale to higher a car is it still possible to enter the parks?

For example are the parks able to ferry you to the available camp sites?

Thanks in advance,
Josh.

entering the parks

Dear Josh,

It is hard to travel to the parks on your own. Sure that is possible but then to enter the parks....
Most safari vans / landcruisers/ jeeps are coming from Nairobi and are carrying tourists who wont be happy to pick someone at the gate. No there are no safari vans from the campsite to pick clients at the gate and even if there was you dont want to stay at a campsite which is often outside the park... But maybe Iam wrong and someone can tell you if there is.. I have never seen such services though.

Only lodges do offer services like gamedrives but you have to pay for them. Wont be cheaper!

If you are a student try to get student price some agencies can offer special rates but there is a certain procedure to follow.

There are some budget safari agencies in Nairobi where you can walk in and negotiate about the price. Maybe you are lucky and get a group you can join !

Regards
Irene
