Visa after marrying to a Kenyan man?

by Sharon
(England)

I am coming to Kenya for three months, but first would like to see if I can extend my tourist visa for 6 months? I am planning to get married to my kenyan partner and also need to know what I have to do to be able to stay with him.

I have tried to obtin a visa for him to visit the UK on two separate occasions now and they have been refused. When we are married will he be able to visit England with me more easily? Has dual citizenship been granted in Kenya yet? Thank you

Congratulations RF, wishing you happiness and pride as you await your awaited bundle of joy.

Claire, I am guessing you are enquiring about a UK visa, and not a Kenyan one. I can't help you much there, but in case its the Kenyan one you refer to, send me an email at: jwahii@gmail.com and I will furnish you with details. Thanks.

VISA
by: RF

Hi,

Good luck getting his VISA, my partner has just got his 2nd visa for the UK and this time for 1 year. We are not married but are expecting a baby soon.

To stay in Kenya for more than 6 months you can get a dependants pass if you are married but you cannot work here.

Good luck.

UK Visa
by: ClaIRE

Hi all - I married my kenyan husband 3 weeks ago and am now back in the uk. We are getting together all documents to make his visa application in April - it will take us this long as we need to show sufficient savings (although we cannot find out how much we need to show)I have a good job in uk but wondered if anyone had a list of supporting documents we can work from!

Thanks all

This is very true, excellent work…
I never used to believe in online dating. I tried looking for the one, in Church, College and other social joints but all were disappointments. One day I tried online dating and from here http://friendfinder.com/go/g1321066, she came knocking into my life. She is the best thing ever. It is now three years since I met this magic lady. We will be weeding next year. Try your luck too!!!

Hi Sharon,

I said I would let you know. We got his VISA yesterday! I am amazed he got it and we are very happy. Going to the UK in 2 weeks.

I think the thing that really helped was that I have a Kenyan work permit and a business that has been running for 8 years here. There is no way the business can run without me or him so it is obvious he would come back to Kenya.

Also we traveled at the same time last year to Thailand.

Good luck,

best

Hi, you say you want to get married to your partner and stay with him in Kenya. Your partner (when you are married) can apply for a Dependant Pass), this takes about one month to process. You will be able to stay with your husband without a Visa and still travel to your home country. However, you will not be allowed to work in Kenya.

I am in the process of finding out this information myself.

Hope this helps.

Visa to RF
by: Sharon

I read your comments. I have tried to get a Visa twice now for my partner and without success. The advice given by Immigration was to try and take him to another country on a Visa first. We are trying to plan to go to India in November. The Global Map (Embassy) just take paperwork from you. Then you have to go back in about 4 days to collect the paperwork and decision. They do not do interviews any more. I get married in June this year and my partner is invited to my daughter's wedding next year - I hope being married makes things a little easier. My finances and accommodation were all in order and proof of communication. They require an itinery of what you will be doing in England ie Travel and to where! but they gave really pathetic excuses about why he could not have a Visa. Good luck and let me know how you get on.

should we marry?
by: RF

I have lived in Kenya for 8 years and been with my Kenyan partner for 6 years. I want him to come to the UK this May and June as my business is closed due to the rains.

We have traveled to Thailand together but never the UK.

I am planning to go to Nairobi next week and try and get his VISA and wondering if we got married at the British High Commission he would automatically get his VISA?

I think we have a lot of information to prove we have enough cash to be in the UK and a business to come back to so he won't over stay his VISA.

Any information would be great. What to do or not to do when applying for a visa.

Thanks!

Hey Abigail

Your story that you were raped is rather saddening and shocking to say the least. However, without seeming to downplay such a horrific issue, is there a specific reason as to why you feel your life and that of your husband is in danger?

Were you involved in any major wrong-doing like drugs or something that makes u afraid of following the due course of the law by trusting the police to see that you, your husband and any property you may have here is protected? There is a fully-fledged tourist police unit to cater for people just like you, as well as the criminal investigation department, anti-terror police and the serious crimes police unit. Am sure all these would be pretty interested to know your story and whom u r afraid of.

Surely Kenya is a country of free people with a functional police and judiciary system. After all, you know u have the option of consulting your embassy in Nairobi or your foreign ministry in your country on matters concerning your security in Kenya if you feel ur concerns have not been adequately addressed. Let me know exactly what you fear and I will give you my opinion. Thanks, take care and sorry again...

visa
by: Irene O

Dear Sharon,

Iam a Dutch woman married with a Kenyan man.

If you want to live and stay in Kenya you need a working permit and it depends which profession you want to do to get the right permit.

If you get married to a Kenyan you can apply for a depended pass which allow you to stay in Kenya but not to work. This pass you obtain for at the Immigration. You can easily get married in Kenya if you carry the right documents with you.

With a tourist visa you can stay 3 months then extend it with another 3 months without leaving the country.

If you need mmore information in details please visit my website about weddings to find my email adress there for assistance.

Kind regards

by: Sharon

Thank you for your advice. Please can you tell me once I am married, am I able to stay in the country permanently or will I have to come out of Kenya for three months? I have heard that you can get an ID card to enable me to stay with my Kenyan husband, but this has to be renewed ever two years? Is this correct please?

Visa's, Marriage et al
by: Archie [Moderator]

Sharon, thankyou for your questions and it would be my joy to be able to answer all of them.

Its not easy to get a visa for the UK especially
from Kenya as you have already found out. I have friends who can transit to 90percent of Europe from Kenya with no problems but the UK government has not decided to join the Schengen agreement which allows freedom of movement. I am not sure whether this is good or bad and I do not want to get involved in security issues.

I fear that if you marry your man he still may not get a visa for UK. I am in a similar position as my fiance is in Kenya, we have our business there, and its been our desire to marry. I am told that there is something new coming out in the new constitution which may help both of us.

Sorry cant be more help

Archie
