Transport strike in Kenya?

by Linda Parkinson
(New Zealand)

Was there any transport strike in Kenya recently?

We're asking because we are awaiting a parcel from Nairobi...

Thanks in advance.

Hi all,

I am loving this site and look forward to it helping get to Kenya this coming August 2010. I have a friend in Nakuru that has told me of the matatus strike and that it ended this past Wednesday 1-6-2010. Hope this helps.

Thanks

transport strike
by: Irene.O

Dear Linda,

There has been a strike of Matatu's that is right. This was almost country wide and affected indeed the transport of people travelling to work etc.

However if this has affected the delivery of the parcel depends on: where did this parcel has to come from and where to be delivered? Was it going by post or a special transport company like DHL?

The person who was going to sent the parcel was it delivered at the post office or transport company for sending abroad? Maybe if you can answer these questions it wil be easier to find out the reason of delay. But in general even normal mail can take some weeks.

Hope this helps.

Kind regards
Irene O.

Transport Strike

I am not sure if this is relevant but I did hear news from Nakuru that all the 'matatus' were on strike a few days ago due to excessive on the spot fines being carried out by the Kenyan Traffic Police. Now whether this strike affects the carriage of posted parcels, I am not sure.
