Traditional wedding gift for Kenyan couple?

by Nancy
(Tampa, FL)

I have Kenyan friends who are being "remarried" in the US, where they have lived for 10 years. Is there something traditional to Kenyan culture that is given as a wedding present? Are there things that are NOT given?? Thank you!

Wedding Presents

Nancy,

Thankyou for your question and I am just smiling at Johns reply 'Goats to Coffee Tables'.....he is quite right and thats the way it is.

Ok let me make my suggestion. The happy couple have been in US for 10 years and are getting remarried. I am not quite sure what that means. Can someone explain? Were they married to each other before or are they entering into a new marriage?

Anyhow, Nancy, regarding a gift. It can either be practical or symbolic. I am sure you know their practical situation but if it was me I would go for something symbolic.

Kanga - Something with striking colours and of course the wording on the bottom hem. The bride would know the meaning of the words and wear it with pride.

Kikoi - For the man and its just a wrap round his nether regions. Easy to put on like a towel but paired with his wifes kanga then its time to rock and roll or swing.

Hope this helps

Archie

Wedding Gifts

Hi Nancy,

Just give them a nice gift.
In Kenya people receive anything from goats to
coffee tables.

It can be special just because it's from You.

Best Wishes, John
