The Kenya Experience

How many of us enjoy running? I do. Well.... I have discovered that there are Running Camps in the heart of the Rift Valley where you can take part in a training holiday for runners and best of all you don't need to be of Olympic Standard or anything remotely like that.

Lornah Kiplagat, one of the Worlds greatest Kenyan athletes has developed a unique 2400m high altitude training center at Iten in the Rift Valley. http://www.lornah.com This is an amazing Kenya Experience, where you can run and train with world class runners on an action packed all inclusive two week holiday and go on a safari as well.

I think it is a great way to experience the Kenyan culture and lifestyle and enjoy meeting Kenya champions.

Hi guys,

Thank you so much for writing about our training camps.
Just to let you know if you were interested that we now have a new website so the information for The Kenya Experience is now on www.traininkenya.com

I must say that I have never heard that story about St Patrick's students running up the valley to get to school (especially as it is a boarding school) but they must be doing something right there as they have produced so many great champion runners!

If you are keen to visit Iten and experience a great running camp then please see www.traininkenya.com

Further to your story. . . .
by: John Marshall

The training camp of Lornah is hosted by St Patrick's Iten (according to Wikipedia) and I wonder if the following is true or not. If it isn't, it should be!!

The village where a lot of the children came from and who went to the Secondary school was at the bottom of an escarpment and the school at the top. Being lazy and wanting to get some extra sleep they did not give themselves enough time to get to class for the 8.00am start so instead of taking the path winding slowly up the escarpment they would run up in a direct line and doing this for several years has turned many into athletic champions (see St Patrick's Iten wikipedia page). St Patrick's does not appear to claim this story as true but as I say it really should be!
