Sweet Mart In Down Town Nakuru

by Cassandra Marie

In Dec of ’07 and Jan of ’08 a group and I landed in Nairobi. After a three hour car ride we reached our home away from home for the next two weeks, Nakuru Kenya.

For the next two weeks the group and I worked at a school. We were thrilled to be there and be with the kids. If you reread the dates we were there, you would know what an interesting time that was.

The days after the elections things were normal in Nakuru, as was most of our time there. In our minds there was one day that was GREAT. We went down town for the day. Walked about for a bit and meet up with people from the school and had a great lunch. There is so much more to the trip but I wanted to tell you how great our lunch was!

There is a place called Sweet Mart in Down Town Nakuru. If you are hungry and nearby it is a must. The staff was friendly and helpful. Most of the group was undecided on what to order and the staff helped them decide and there was not one unsatisfied costumer. I highly recommend the Masala Burger with Chips and a Black Current soda.

Our time in Kenya was at a time of unrest in their democratic history. We saw things that made us feel like we where in a movie and our hearts were aching for those around us. But, we needed to be and our time at Sweet Mart was the icing on the cake. From that afternoon on every time we ate there it was going to be our local cafe. They knew our names and we were like family.

If you are staying in Nakuru for holiday, safari or even just passing through, Sweet Mart is the place to eat! Go in and take a break from the things you have to do. Enjoy a Black Current or a Coca-Cola. Just know you will enjoy your meal and meet amazing people!

Guava a step behind
by: Dr. Kamau

Cafe Guava is indeed a nice place to dine, this based on the quality of meals they offer and also additional services such as wi-fi internet hot spot.

But they are a step behind. The management has not yet been able to eradicate the perception that the cafe is meant for the foreign tourists and the wealthy coz they the only pple that ever go in there. I only visited the place today after seeing this page!

Cafe Guava
by: Okumu

Hi, I was in Nakuru on Tuesday and Cafe Guava looked like the only place worth visiting. It has potential, but honestly it's still a crappy place compared to Java in Nairobi. Hopefully they'll fix it up soon. Plus i ordered fries and lamb chops, for the waiter to give me fries and beef stew. It's the little things...

I'm sitting in Guava cafe right now, and in my opinon this is the best place to eat in Nakuru, the coffee here is world-class, the food is fantastic and the service is perfect. I have lived in Nakuru most of my life and the is no place that makes one feel at home like Cafe Guava..

No more Sweet Mart! :(
by: Cassandra Marie

I just got back about 3 weeks ago from Nakuru and Sweet Mart is no longer. One afternoon my team and I were in town the three of us that went last year were craving Sweet Mart! We talked to a friend of mine and he said that it closed. My time in Kenya would not be the same. After spending a afternoon in town I was able to meet up with one of the workers from Sweet Mart and he informed me that they closed and the workers moved on to other local cafes. He was happy to have found another job at Guava Cafe.

As sad as I was to be in Kenya without my fav place to eat I was able to find a few other places. Guava Cafe is really good when you want some coffee and the internet. My teammates and I loved the "Jet Flu" shake. It was full of chocolate and banana. Perfect after a long day of working with the students at a local school.

So next you all are in Nakuru check out Guava Cafe. I will never forget the great food and friends at Sweet Mart. Nakupehda my rafikis!

Guava
by: Johnny Brooks

I am sitting in Guava right now. I am not sure if it is owned by the same folks that owned the former Sweet Mart, but it is superior in every way.

Good drinks, o.k. food, and the one and only wifi in Nakuru.

It is just down the road from where Sweet Mart used to be.

Sweet Mart - Nakuru
by: Archie

Your comments regarding Sweet Mart were a delight to read and I am sure everyone had the best of times there. I was straight on the phone and asked my dear friend in Nakuru why she had never taken me there and I was told that Gilanis special fruit juices were better. However I did find out that one of the Sweet Marts has closed and the owners have opened up a new cafe called 'Guava' but I dont have the address so far. I will be back there later this year and will post mail to let you know. Kind regards
