Our wedding in Masai Mara

When we decided to get married in 2005, we wanted to have a special wedding, not something that only our families wanted. We wanted something private. So we searched and searched. Then we came across the Governor’s Camp in Il Moran in Kenya. That would be the place where we got married!
So our marriage took place in the middle of the Masai Mara, right at Mara River, with the most beautiful sunset we had ever seen. We walked down the aisle while Masai tribesmen were singing. Then we sat opposite each other and read the wedding vows to each other we’d written before, and we were married. It was very emotional, with tears and everything…
Afer the ceremony, we had a little reception. We deliberately had invited only a few guests. When darkness fell, a large fire was lit and our private chefs prepared a great meal. Wild animals had come to drink water at the Mara River and we were watching them while we had dinner. It was great. We didn’t have music, but we didn’t need it either – nature was our music with all the sounds going on!
At home in the UK, we also had a big reception with all our family and friends. So we saved all the formal stuff – dances and speeches – for then.
Luckily our tour operator was taking care of all the paper work, so we could focus on each other and on the wedding. We had a great and hassle-free wedding!
