Looking for NBO terminal map

by Stephen
(Southern UK)

Some friends who are not confident travellers are looking to travel from Heathrow to Kilimanjaro via Nairobi on Kenyan Airways. Their main fear is finding their connecting flight at Nairobi. They have been to Nairobi before but cannot remember the airport and anyway they did not have to transfer to another flight.

They usually go via Amsterdam on KLM and direct to Kili from there.

I have been trying to reassure them that the NBO terminal building has been modernised and is small enought that they won't get lost but a map of the terminals would be a great help if you know where I might find one.

Cheers,
Stephen

Thanks for your note. The tickets are booked so your comment and the previous ones have done the trick. Thanks again.

NBO
by: Cassandra Marie

Hello Stephen,
As all the other comments have stated a map of the airport is not common for NBO. Also they have said it is very easy to get around and I want to stress how accurate they are. I fly to Kenya every year and have never gotten lost or mixed up in the airport. I have also taken groups with me when I have gone and still have not lost someone in the airport.

When you get off the plane there is a crowd of people that moves all in the same direction and that is the direction of the visa counter and passport check. If you/they are traveling with more then one person here is a tip on how not to get separated: when traveling in groups through NBO at the passport counter meet up before you all get in a line. Try to get everyone in lines that are about the same length. This will help when you get to the counter….most of you will be helped at the same time in other lines and pass through to baggage claim around the sometime. If you do get separated just agree to meet down the stairs. There is one central baggage claim area and all the bags will go through it. So if you get separated just meet down there and you will find each other.

Really there is no big issue with getting lost. Things are marked and it is not that big that it is overwhelming. Just breathe and have a good time while in the airport. If they are having a hard time with finding anything the airport staff is friendly and very helpful.

I hope your friends have a safe and fun trip!

Airport is modern and easy to connect your next flight
by: Irene O.

Dear Stephen,
I have been to Nairobi often. The airport is quite modern but yes it is not that big. I mean you cant get lost. There a sign boards to show where to go for internal flight and internation flights. When you get out of the plane there are also airport services where you can ask where to go to for your flight. When you arrive in Kenya and dont stay there but continue your yourney to another country then you only need a transfer visa. When you get out of the plane you walk to the immigration to get your stamp in your pasport or transfer / tourist visa and pick your luggage downstairs. You go through the customs and walk outside to the international flight departure terminal. However I will try to get some more detailled information. But as said it is really easy to connect. Regards Irene

Archie, Thank you for the description of the Nairobi terminal. I got the impression from Google Earth that it is quite compact.

My friends will be arriving from the UK on Kenya Airways and heading for the Precision Air gate to catch the onward service to Kilimanjaro. I'm assuming that they don't need to leave the building to do that.

I think they are almost convinced that it will be easy and I will show them your comments as they are very reassuring. Thanks again.

Nairobi Airport
by: Archie Melrose

Stephen, I see what you mean, a map of the terminal is hard to find. However having been to Nairobi many times over the last 3 years its so very easy and when the websites talk about Terminals 1, 2 and 3 its not like Heathrow where they are miles apart. In fact the terminals are just a matter of a few minutes walk and very clearly signposted. On arrival I just follow the crowd until you arrive at the immigration desks for the visa stamp. As you come out of the arrival hall look right towards the side door, go past the ATM machine and outside into a small car park. The departure terminals are on the other side of the road. My work colleague en route to Mombasa last October applied to the Kenyan Embassy for their visas. I would encourage you to do the same as the wait at Airport Immigration can be quite disheartening after a long flight. I will have to defer to the other moderators for more advice on the internal flight. Hope this helps but I will continue to search for a terminal map

Archie
