Lake Nakuru - Flamingoes

On the way for chai (tea) and kahawa (coffee) at the Nakuru Lodge I took a wrong turn. This is the result, up front and personal with flamingoes, cormorants doing their best to get the minerals and talapia (tasty) out of the water.

They didn't care that they were visited by this 'mzunug' (white man) and just let me wander around. I guess they said 'mmm another tourist - lets carry on eating and he might go away'.

Let's hope the flamingoes will stick for a while...

Archie, thanks for this picture. Lake Nakuru is indeed famous for it's big pink flamingo population. I hope the flamingoes will be here for a long time to come - the population seems to be going up and down considerably over time, due to increasing droughts and floods (a natural pattern which seems to be a bit out of control recently). Or some also think it's because of pollution.

Anyway, it's a fantastic sight!
