I have given this some thought and there does not appear to be a nationally adopted animal for Kenya. I guess its hard to do with such a variety to choose from. I wonder whether history has not leant itself towards having an adopted animal as so much has happened politically in Kenya in the last 100 years.
As Webmaster Arjen has pointed out the lion and rooster are on the Kenyan coat of arms, so I guess there would be a choice between the two. I think general consensus would be for 'Simba' [Lion] which would fall into line with various business and sport teams names in Kenya.
If it was up to me I would choose the 'WartHog'.....its got attitude, it looks fierce, and it would make you step back if you met it on a dark night.

I don't believe Kenya ever officially adopted a national animal.
But the Kenya's coat of arms depicts two lions and a rooster. In Kenya, the rooster is the symbol of a new and prosperous life.
And the "Big Five" animals (elephant, lion, rhino, buffalo and giraffe) also function as a symbol of Kenya's wildlfe. Of them, especially the lion is important in Kenya. A few tribes still have rituals in which e.g. a young man must kill a lion (with e.g. a spear) to make it to a higher stage in the tribe. The Kenyan government tries to stop this, however.
