Kenyan shilling notes from 1977 have value?

by Visitor

A friend gave me 3 bank notes dated 5/1/77 for 5, 10 and 20 shillings. Do they still have value? And can they be exchanged at a US bank? Thank you.

Yes they have NEW

The former answers are not very educated. The correct answer is this: The value is totally depending of the grade of the banknotes.
If they are UNC, uncirculated, these three 1977 notes represent a collectors value up to 100 US dollars. Top quality from that year is a bit scarce. If the condition is bad, the value is bad.

Kenyan Notes 1977

Hiya and thanks for your question,

Arjen [Websmaster] was most polite and understanding. However I have to tell you the truth and hope you will come back.......your notes would probably buy a cup of tea or coffee in a downtown market. If you were lucky you might get a 'samosa' but you might have to haggle over the price.

So I guess that your notes are worthless just as mine are from various countries around the world which are now defunct and useless.

Happy Travels

Archie

Your fortune

I don't know if any US bank would accept these shilling notes, but if they do, you would get 35-40 dollarcents for them as one Kenyan Shilling equals about a dollar cent. Let's hope your bank doesn't charge a commission on currency exchanges... ;-)
