Kenya Weddings - Adventure and Romance!
Kenya Weddings seem to be a real trend. What’s more romantic than marrying your soul mate in an exotic location you both love – with the dramatic Kenyan landscape or a Kenyan white sand beach as a backdrop?
What's YOUR Kenya dream wedding?
Tell us about it!
Another big advantage of a wedding in Kenya is that you can do your wedding ceremony in the same area as our honeymoon. You can avoid the stress of packing and traveling to a far, unknown place around one of the most important moments of your life. But you can still have a honeymoon in Kenya – the safari capital of the world – you’ll never forget.
The Right Location for Kenya Weddings
It’s possible (with the right license) to marry on just about any location in Kenya. Many people choose to say the big yes on one of the beaches along the Indian Ocean. They indeed make perfect locations: white sand beaches with palm trees, tranquility, the bluest oceans and (as I can personally testify) the best sunsets you’ve ever seen… Here’s more about beach weddings in Kenya.
But increasingly, people also get married in such places as the beautiful Lamu island, one the famous Kenyan wildlife parks (for example Masai Mara or Amboseli), on the slopes of Mount Kenya, or even in a hot air balloon over the plains of Masai Mara or in a dhow boat gliding past one of the Swahili coast towns.
There are several hotels and resorts with a full wedding service, including arranging flowers, cake, a photographer, champagne, and help with legal paperwork. Among them are the New Lamu Palace Hotel at the island of Lamu, the prestigious Norfolk Hotel in Nairobi, the Mara Safari Club and the Governors Camp in Masai Mara National Reserve, and many more.
However, one wedding planning agency in Kenya that I can recommend is Ivory & Pearls run by Irene Okech. As a Dutch woman she got married in Kenya herself a few years ago. Read her story here.
Practical Details
There is some legal stuff to arrange. You’ll have to choose between a Civil Ceremony or a Religious Ceremony. In both cases you’re obliged to have two witnesses present.
You also have to make sure that your wedding is recognized under Kenyan law, or the marriage would be null and void. See my overview of legal details of a wedding in Kenya.
