i was trying my best some information regarding the kenyan social women status before their land's colonization. i need to trace their social status by both natve and foreign forces in order to find out the very effect of colonizers upon the Kenyan women. i see that's little is given in history about this land before the European and Arab settlers on it, this makes my question of study harder to be solved

Looking way back! by: Anonymous
Even further back....
Kenya's ethnic communities are divided into the Bantu [who migrated from Cameroon], the Nilotes, [who migrated from the Sudan], and the Cushites [who came down through Ethiopia]. Little is known about what Kenya's inhabitants were like before then.
One thing's for sure, Kenya became a nation in the eraly 1900s. Previously, each community ruled its territory as a country.

Colonisation by: Archie Melrose
Anonymous????
There is a very good BBC documentary series on TV just now which is detailing the Kingdoms of Africa going back thousands of years. You can catch this on BBC I-Player on the web. This will give you a wonderful insight into the lost civilisations of Africa [different regions] long before the migration of people from the North/South/East or West. The white colonisation is just a tiny blip compared to what was before.
I have to tell you it has opened up my eyes and understanding of history, architecture, and the wealth of Africa. My pre-conceptions are disappearing each programme I watch.

Kenya before it was colonized by: Arjen (webmaster)
If you also count the Arabs as colonizers, then you have to go back a long time (e.g. a millenium) to find the area which is now called Kenya without colonizers.
Basically, look at how the traditional tribes in Kenya such as the Masai or Samburu live - small settlements of people who are mainly occupied with agriculture (especially cattle) and living in small cottages - and picture that across Kenya.
