Impact of illiteracy in Kenya?

by Visitor

In May and June 2011, I will be going on a missions trip to Kenya, and I am doing a research reports on East African and Swahili speaking countries.

Right now I am researching the illiteracy problem in Kenya.

I have already determined WHY this is a problem in Kenya, but I have not really found out HOW it affects the country.

Could you please help me?

Your Question

Hi to you and thanks for your mail.

I agree there are many studies published on the web giving statistics and even more statistics of illiteracy rates and as you said the WHY's.

I found this website and here is the link and I hope this may be useful in determining the outcome of improving literacy leading to improved livelihood skills. I am sure this can be applied to Kenya. However concrete evidence of the effect of lack of literacy within Kenya is elusive as there are many independent schools, missions, NGO's, and other organisations that probably never publish their reports.

Hope this helps
