Thankyou for your mail to this website and although I am familiar with economics in the Nakuru region I had no idea of the problems in Ukambani.
I have just looked at an article from the Daily Nation regarding the maize farmers plight especially prices, storage and transport to markets.
I can understand that middle men will come in to buy bags while the government is unwilling or late to pay. I can understand the needs of the farmers to make at least some money to feed their families, but I guess its making a loss. I question why maize is being imported from Uganda.
I cannot get involved in political decisions but my desire would be that all of the farmers could bind together as a cooperative, buy a truck or two, demand a stable price at market and be able to make some profit. This is not extreme and it has worked all over the world.
I am sorry I cannot be of more help and my heart goes out to the families.
