How to move in with an African tribe?

by Dorothy
(Ireland)

Me and my boyfriend have been thinking about this for quite some time now, but we're actually getting up and trying to do this! We'd like to live in a tribe, work and live like those around us and get the FULL tribe experience first hand. The thing is, we've no idea how to get in contact with anyone who could help us achieve this dream. We're planning to spend half a year in Africa and then travel through Europe for another year (staying in two particular places for half a year each) but getting information about this kind of thing is next to impossible. I've sent tens of e-mails to many different sites which supposedly deal with tribes and volunteering and such, but got no reply from any of them. Is there anything anyone could tell me about how to do this?

Volunteer to teach at Secondary school.
by: John Kananda

I have a suggestion for you. My community in Muranga Kenya is looking for teachers in a Secondary School and they do not have money to hire. If you guys would like to go and volunteer as teachers at the school, this will give you an opportunity to embend in Kikuyu community. While serving there you can make trips to safaris and even visit neighbouring countries of Tanzania and Uganda. Currently I live in USA but if you need more details, contact me by email.

Do they have this programme with people swapping places with someone from a tribe in anyo ther countries? I'm from Ireland. We're looking up as many websites, sending as many e-mails as we can and just reasearching everything as much as we can!
Thank you anyways, and thank you to any further replies. Hope someone out there will be able to provide me with some information or help.

Beats me...
by: Arjen (webmaster)

I have no idea how to do this... I should warn you that it won't be easy, there may be severe downsides, but you probably figured this yourself. Maybe any other reader has some tips or ideas?

In the Netherlands, there are some TV programs who arrange exchanges between Dutch people and very traditional tribes in Africa and elsewhere. These people have to live just like the tribespeople do. It isn't for me ;-)
