Car Importation into Kenya by: Anonymous
You can visit www.kenyacarbazaar.com for more information on this. Or you can even contact them for assistance. They managed to get my sister's first car in good time and the car was very clean.

ask your clearing agent by: kairu paul
all you need when calling your clearing agent is
1-cif value mombasa kenya
2- the cc of the car
3- whether the car is a wagon or a saloon and most important
4- the make of the car.
I learned 2day-16/3/2010- that tax is being calculated on a custom value-market value- predetermined by kra and not on the cif value, hence its very expensive to import some vehicles that have high demand or expensive in the local market.
your agent is the best person and you can enquire with different agents for comparison.

Importing cars by: Archie Melrose
Irene has given you the sites to look at but let me give you another one which may help
http://www.carjunction.com/
This is a Japanese importer and once you choose your car and Mombasa it will give you a price. However I am not sure if that includes import tax but that is well covered by Irenes advice.
For import a car younger than 2003 is NO NO. Anything older you can forget about it.
Regards
Archie

Some Info... by: Cassandra Marie
Hello,
This is not my area of expertise at all but, I was able to pull up a site that had some info. This site goes into the rules and laws Kenya has for importing a car.
It is also full of use facts and info like....Kenya is a major importers of Japanese used cars in Africa. And more interestingly...all vehicles imported to Kenya must not be more than 8 years old from the first year of registration. Hence in 2010, only vehicles manufactured in the year 2003 and onwards will be allowed.
Here is the link with the rules and laws:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kenya_used_car_import_law
Also here is a site that is in the business of importing cars to Kenya. They would be a great place to start with getting quotes and cost of taxes. http://www.auto-kenya.com/
