In Kenya children are raised in general like in any part of the world. The only difference is that there are many tribes with their own traditions whereby the children are raised within that culture. We talk about the tribes still having their strong culture like the masai, samburu, pokoth, turkana etc.
When we talk about the children in the more modern cities like Nairobi and Mombasa children are raised like anywhere else.
I must say that the way children are disciplined in Kenya is quite oldmodish. In schools but also in many families the stick or ruler is still used to punish the children. If you visit a schools you will see teachers holding a stick... or they have them in the office...
The opinions about this are very different. Many parents are no longer happy with it others do recommend the stick!
Another problem in Kenya concerning children is that the poverty force parents to accept anu job they can get or to look for any job and even if they have to travel far it wont stop them. Children are often left at home without anyone supervising them. Sometimes as young as 3 or 4 years old they are left in the house with little food.Children are tought to be independent at young age.
In school they have the system with points. There is a number 1, 2 etc in the class so each child is trying to work very hard to become number 1. So many parents are determined to have their child to be number 1 and demand from their children to study hard.
But in general I think the Kenyan child is like any other child but there are diffirences depending on tribe if the child is raised in traditional way.
I hope any Kenyan will react to add comments or correct me if Iam wrong..
