You should know that tourists dont lay on the beach. The sand is not really comfortable to lay at except from some locations. Tourists do lay near the poolside at the hotel or at the grass compounds. The beach is used for a walk or just to get into the ocean. But not many people to swim in the ocean. The water is often to far away and once the tide get high waves can be quite high. I have heard of sand flies but not really experienced them myself. To wear water sandals is advisable when walking in the water because of sea hedgehogs. But this depends where you are. About beach clothing. Ladies two pieces, top less is not allowed. Safari clothes, anything you are comfortable with.In the morning and evening hours it can be a bit cold. Dont forget your hat to protect you against sunburn. Cotton clothes, no need to wear specific safari clothes. Comfortable shoes. And if you do a lodge safari decent clothes for the restaurant. Hi Guy, You are on the right 'track' with your thinking. The Kenya coast is often called the 'coral coast' so some type of footwear for the beach is advisable- particularly at low tide. Stone fish (venomous) hang out around the coral reefs and 'low tide' makes you more vulnerable to encountering coral, stone fish and whatever else may be 'lurking' about. Conservative beachwear is Appropriate on the beach so go in 'style'. Neutral colors (nothing bright) is appropriate for safaris as a natural camouflage and take a hat or cap with a brim, your binoculars, camera or video recorder. and have an Enjoyable trip, Best Regards, John www.ExploringKenya.com
