Can a Kenyan man and an American women have a marriage without cultural problems?

by Diane
(Jackson, MS USA)

Hi, I am an American woman who is engaged to an Kenyan man. So far our relationship is great. But what are the odds of a Kenyan man and an American woman who get married? Will the different cultures create a problem? Will our cultures eventually clash? Thanks for any feedback you can give me on this.

Dr.Zabaza is amazing because the way he speaks and the way he treat his client is so different from the way other spell casters do theirs. My name is Karla from Carolina USA, I am have contacted up to five different spell casters two in California and the other three on internet but none was polite and powerful as Dr.Zabaza. After i contact those other spell casters and i was not able to get my result i decided to contact Dr.Zabaza as my last option. But i am so happy to be writing this comment now because Dr.Zabaza was able to bringing my lover back within 48 hours. This is what i contacted five other spell caster for and still yet i was not able to get my lover back The best and the fast place to get your lover back is at Dr.Zabaza temple of solution whose contact details are +2348182620374 or quick access via email at: zabaza.logan@yahoo.com

dr.oluwa kemi brought back my ex husband NEW
by: sarah

My name is sarah dixon, am from Dublin. i want to use this opportunity to thank my great doctor who really made my life a pleasurable one today. This great man DR.OLUWAKEMI brought my husband back to me, i had 2 lovely kids for my husband, about 3 years ago i and my husband has been into one quarrel or the other until he finally left me for one lady. i felt my life was over and my kids thought they would never see their father again. i tried to be strong just for the kids but i could not control the pains that torments my heart, my heart was filled with sorrows and pains because i was really in love with my husband. Every day and night i think of him and always wish he would come back to me, until one day i met a good friend of mine that was also in a situation like me but her problem was her ex-boyfriend who she had an unwanted pregnancy for and he refused to take responsibility and dumped her. she told me that mine was a small case and that i shouldn't worry about it at all so i asked her what was the solution to my problems and she gave me this great man phone number and his email address. i was doubting if this man was the solution, so contacted this great man and he told me what to do and i deed them all, he told me to wait for just two day and that my husband will come crawling on his kneels just for forgiveness so i faithfully deed what this great man asked me to do and for sure after two days i heard a knock on the door, in a great surprise i saw him on his kneels and i was speechless, when he saw me, all he did was crying and asking me for forgiveness, from that day, all the pains and sorrows in my heart flew away, since then i and my husband and our lovely kids are happy.that's why i want to say a big thank you to oluwakemiprosperityspell@live.com This great man made me to understand that there no problem on earth that has no solution so please if you know that you have this same problem or any problem that is similar, i will advise you to come straight to this great man. you can email him at:oluwakemiprosperityspell@live.com or call him +2348103508204

From a real Kenyan man living in Kenya NEW
by: Kent Weche

Dear American woman. When we talk of America, do we refer to Canada, USA, Latin American, Southern or the native Mayan? Is the ideal USA american not a former European? Is Obama American or Kenyan. If Kenya, is he not a Luo and not any other of the 41 very dialectically, traditionally and even culturally differing tribe.

My point is this: there is no creature called Kenyan Man. All homo sapiens men are wired in more or less the same way. From the same womb of a given woman, we get a thief and a priest. From a Kenyan man we got Obama, but also from a Kenyan man we got Pastor Deya ( and both are actually from the Luo community). Pastor Deya has been fighting extradition from the UK due to charges of child trafficking in Kenya while Obama earns the Nobel Prize.

So American woman: Truthful, honest and informed advise from a caring, loving, sophisticated, educated and still down to earth Kenyan man; A man is a template from which a woman can create either a loving husband, a doting dad or just a sperm producing father. A man, any man, from Kenya or anywhere else, is a predicate. From man we, the world, have created deadly fighters, yellow cowards, paedophiles, and also great worriers and leaders like Mandela. So american woman, you have a template, and you have the gift of transforming your man to that which you desire him to be. If in doubt, write to me on; wecheken@gmail.com. I am just a Kenyan who wants to make a positive change in this beautiful world.

kenyan husband NEW
by: Anonymous

I have been with a Kenyan man for 6 years, married for 4 years, we have 2 children. All I can say you cannot define a person by his origin, especially when you say Kenyan you may add that Kenya is big and there are 42 tribes in it. All men are different. My one is hard-working and loyal, but there are some lazy buddies out there. One thing, my husband craves for going back to Kenya and I am afraid this will win over me one day. I am not ready to drop everything and leave with him from where I am settled. I did not anticipate this before getting married. I am from Eastern Europe and I don't have such attachment to my own home country.

@married to a Kenyan pastor. I think you deserve what your getting cause its evident you are a fool, coz just because the guy you married acts as he does doesn't mean all Kenyan men are the same and I can't believe you can say that about your husband no matter how awful he is.I'm 16 and I've got enough common sense to see that you're just a woman in a dissatisfying marriage who's taking it all out on Kenyan men and I advise you to think twice before you go around writing about a particular group of people just because one of them wrong you cause it just shows that you lack enough common sense.

hello
by: Anonymous

hi, my name is "Lynn". I am an American woman from Tennessee. My husband is from Kenya, Africa. We have been married for a year now. It is difficult bc of how we American women think of ourselves (independent). He thinks women are not as smart, strong, and definitely should not make more money than men. He is okay with me working, but on top of fulltime AND parttime job, i cook and clean. It is hard. Things like how men can do whatever but the woman must ask for permission that is if it allowed. He looks thru my phone occasionally and once...just once, i picked his up to just be nosy and he flipped the script. He can stay out till morning drinking with is buddies but i have to ask for permission to even go to the store in the day time. It is def hard. But you put up with it all to be with the one you love. And i love him dearly. He is my world. and one thing i know though is he loves hard. He doesnt believe in divorce. you know when you think of the future and how it is gonna be? Well, ive asked exes before someting like " where do you see yourself in ten yrs?" and needless to say the answer was always about himself: "in a bmw with lotsa cash man!" ugh. Well i ask my husband that and he said " coming home from work in a suit and seeing you (referring to me) in the yard playing with the kids!" he is something. He means more to me than a cultural problem. I married him so i took his last name and is culture with it. And it is worth it. I know in my heart I will be in love with this man till the day I die and we will be together until then too.

They are just like every other man in the world, difference is that they are from Kenya
by: Anonymous

Well, I am a Kenyan, I will give you my opinion as a Kenyan and I hope it helps.

Kenyan men are arrogant sometimes, ego-driven, some are lazy, etc. You can find all bad traits in a Kenyan man. However, they are also kind, good hearted, hardworking, driven by morals etc.

Let's just say it depends on who you meet. I have dated all kinds of Kenyan men so I know, they are just as bad as they are good. At the end of the day, they are all individuals who are totally different.

Maybe one thing that is common to all Kenyan men is that most love education and want to get to the highest education levels they can, most are stubborn, they stare at any beautiful girl they see anywhere but that doesn't mean they are being unfaithful they just like staring at anything good.

At the end of the day, IT DEPENDS ON THE ONE YOU ARE WITH, if he is good then he is good and vice versa.

All the best. :)

I have meet and work in the same company with many of them, and they are very loving and caring people, with some faults like any other person. I have been dating one guy from Nairobi and he is the most caring and fun man that i ever meet,,, I am not white or 200 pounds,,I am actually very petite Latin girl. and I will tell you I dated other guys from different cultures, and no one have loved me and compliment me every single day the way this guy does...

I am married to a Kenyan man. After reading some of the previous comments I believe that it is safe to say that you can not judge Kenyans or any other ethnic group as a whole. My husband is an extremely good husband, father, and Christian. He works very hard as an American soldier (yes, Kenyan citizens can join the U.S. military) to support our family. His family is very accepting and supportive of our marriage. Of course we have many cultural differences but if you truly love someone you learn to work through them and compromise for the good of all involved. All of the Kenyan men that I have met have truly been good kind hearted people.

It has been very tough
by: Married to Kenyan "pastor"

With a sincere heart to all American ladies, Be Careful! Kenyan men are lazy, and see white women as a passport to leave their countries. They seem perfect, even godly, up until the wedding, or until they can get out of Kenya. then, they hide it no more, they become abusive, and unloving. They are addicted to the Internet where they continue to make " networks" for business or ministry. In reality they are getting young African girls to fall for them. Impressing them just because they are now in America. Do not be fooled. Even "pastors" or "christian leaders" are eager to flee from the cursed poverty the live. May God forgive them for using people. I am married to one. The price is too high.

I finally came to my senses and left him and I have never been so happy in my life. I said that to say this...Kenyans are not the only culture that has abusive men.

I think I've figured this out. You are really a Kenyan man saying you're an American woman so you can convince us otherwise.

Whats wrong with you kenyan man?

I really don't get what the big deal is for a gal to dream of a man who will treat her like a lady! Our kenyan men go to work by 5.00 am in the morning and come back home after 10.00 or 11.00 Pm! The man is never there and when he is he is hungover,..........if you feel threatened by a soap character men you better up your game coz she will not sit around waiting for the day when you will treat her like a woman which may as well be never in your calender! Too late these soaps are here to stay men folk need to figure out how to stay ahead of the game unfortunately our economy does not favor us. We Kenyan men are good at making money, Lets make it while the rest play romance and waste good money on useless things.

NOW, from me...did you notice something on the above blog excerpts? Well, the writer's names are actual Kenyan names. These comments were written by Kenyans!

He will Love you Like No other man in the whole wide world.
by: D.

Hey,,, I thought you asked the question. Didn't you? I mean, why are so defensive when people tell you the truth? I know the truth is interrupting your dream fantasy. It is scaring you. But remember you asked for the world's responses. By the way, I did not know this blog was just for you. I thought it was a forum for all women to get advice. I am sorry. I truly misunderstood.

I do want to explain that some of us do not have low-self esteem issues. Example. I am a former model, actress, owned 2 businesses. Also worked internationally with Security Clearance...My point is, my esteem is high. THAT is what he had a problem with...don't you get it? You cannot control a beautiful, confident, independent woman. And the women he could control easily bored him. Geez, I see I'm wasting my time here. Next you'll be blaming the women for being conned. Sorta like blaming the victim. I'm gonna tell you what you want to hear so you can have some peace. YES, your Kenyan is different from the whole world. YES, he is honest and since you have worked together, everything is legit. YES, he will not beat, use, humiliate, cheat, on you because YOU are so special, he just wouldn't dare. ssshhhhh, calm your inner soul down. You're going to take the risk anyway, I don't see why you begged to answer the question. Isn't this just a waste of your time if you simply want to self-stroke you and your wonderful, Mr. Perfect,
Can't do anything wrong, man's ego? And that line it happens in developed countries too...sorry, that makes me gag because it's in the numbers. Try 1:38. Try the fact that there is (or was until a few years ago) only 1 domestic violence shelter in ALL of Kenya, in Nairobi. Now I see I've wasted my time. All that writing for nothin'. C'est la vie.

Regardless of how many bad experiences you have had with any person whether they are from Kenya or any other country. You can not blame the whole country for your mishaps. I AM VERY PROUD OF MY KENYAN, IM PROUD TO BE AN AMERICAN AND HE IS PROUD TO BE A KENYAN. I LOVE MY COUNTRY JUST AS HE LOVES HIS COUNTRY. But we are in a relationship with each other regardless of what others may think.

I appreciate all the comments that I have read. I am still studying the Kenyan culture as well as learning the language. I dont know what the future holds for me and my Kenyan but for the last 14 months its been great. There are men in each culture that has done horrific things to women. I am an American and you see on the news daily how bad things are in some states so I cant Judge the Kenyans on things that has happened. All I can do is to stay focused on my relationship. As I stated when I first started this blog, my fiancee and I were FRIENDS first and had no intentions on dating. We both work for an American company in which we BOTH had to obtain a SECRET SECURITY Clearance. He has been with the company going on 6 years now so if he is faking about who he really is then he has fooled a lot of people including the company we work for.
For the ones that has had a bad experience with Kenyans, have you dated people from other cultures if so how was that experience? Also it seems like there are some LOW self-esteem issues going on.

Hello, hello, to all. My Olympian story does not appear in order on this site. But you are smart and can put them together the right way. I am not bitter. At 1st I was. That is normal. But with therapy and God I have let it go, I have forgiven him and his friends, I have moved on.But God had this happen to me for a reason, my Pastor said. It was to tell so others (men & women could learn). He scared more than broke my heart but yes, that did happen too. He told me, hey, you really trusted me. I got you to trust me. See how good I am at playing mind games. [tears right now, this moment, as you read this] ...let me add to those who say how could I be so stupid--well, I am book smart but lack social knowldege, was sheltered you know? And then the mid-west in the US is male-dominated,not like New York and also, my family are from the Caribbean and the men there dominate to. So at 1st he reminded me of home. But the Carib men are not like that. Not so cold. NOt so mean. I am happy you are thinking with your mind. To all who read our stories, don't throw us away like stupid girls. We once, [I am crying softly as I write] , were in love with them too. So sorry for my tears. Excuse me.

...no. You will not go. I don't think you can handle no running water and an Out House. You are too prissy. You think you are better than us. I got on my knees and said why would you think that? I love you and your country, your mother too. He said. no. But I will come back to visit. My heart turned cold. I prayed for him. But 1st let him go emotionally, then mentally then physically by putting him out. This is how you do it, one step at a time. My dear, you may go to Kenya, he may never keep you as a prisoner. But then again he may. Do YOU understand me? Then again, maybe not tomorrow. Maybe not next year. Maybe not 5. But it just may happen...on the day he takes a girl younger than you, and you are already young. 16 is not unheard of...and in 5 yrs you will be how old?

It is all over the internet, just do a search. It is considered an honor for the son to give children as gifts because to them, they are all in the family, neighboring huts, anyway. Some nites he would tell me he would take our 1st born especially if it was a boy and go with him to Kenya. One Kenyan wrote on YOu Tube, who cares? All that matters is that he won. Listen, ladies. YOur man may indeed be different. All men are not the same, I give you that. But I want you to tell these novice women, the whole truth. This is the mind-set of most Kenyans. Do you want to take a chance on a man; marriage. long term dating on that even 1 or 2 his bad days he becomes like this out of the month. interesting mixture of comments
by: Cat

Hi, everyone.
I've written on this site before, currently I have been in contact with a Kenyan man and we seem to get along well and have daily contact. He is coming to visit me in London UK in September, so I suppose the real test is when we meet and spend time together. I have found it interesting to read some of the accounts good and bad, posted on here. It has made me use my head instead of letting my heart run away with my emotions. Im sorry for people who have experienced a difficult, painfull time. I have also experienced abuse and pain with an Ex who was British....and suffered heart ache when other relationships ended. I have found that you must be true to yourself, have confidence and expect to be treaded with respect and visa versa. The moment that feeling that, something is not quite right, comes along you need to be strong and communicate your fears but also listen then decide what is the best course of action.....being confident and in control is important.Having self respect and integrity makes you more respected by your partner.

Remeber the Olympian?
by: D., Dea., Debra, etc.

It is now time for the Olympics. There is a number 1 runner, always wins. Does a tribal, nasty dance after winning right there on the tracks. I don't remember his name. Did you hear what he did to a fellow Kenyan woman in London? 1st b4 you say I am a liar or wrongly biased or close-minded. Let me assure you i am not. I love all peoples and cultures. I have an international daughter. And the truth is all on You Tube if you say I am lying. Well, he was at a bar and saw her. He invited her for a drink. She accepted. He walked followed her outside. He attempted to have relations with her and she adamantly said no. He attempted to force himself on her then, then the unthinkable. He beat her so bad she is in the hospital. Her eyes are swollen, her spirit broken. The U.K. doctors said she is near death. They...

I think I know Peter. I too am from Missouri. I never used my man for sex. I was celibant. He violated that 2x and told me he would do it again. I left him. I am saved again. I have repented although I did nothing wrong. I respect my God and will humble myself to the Lord anytime. Maryland Heights and Hazelwood is their La La land. The women at functions hate, I mean despise us American women and will go and shimmy up to your man right in front of your face. He will say he wants only you. Then she will call him the very next morning and he will take the call and speak in Kikuyu. But I learned Kikuyu. I know 3 other languages. Within 2 days, he had slept with her and her husband. (my message is clean, no bad words, it is their deeds that are un-Godly.

He told me he was my destiny by the Lord, Jesus Christ.
by: Dea

He said Homosexualty and he to live with a woman, any woman, not me particularily, and he needed me to have his baby so no one would know. When I said no. He took away all the bathtissue from the house and told me I could use papertowels and that I was no longer his problem. Have you heard enough? Don't believe your Kenyan would ever do that to you? Don't believe he is lying. Don't believe he cares about how much money you have or if your heart really falls? I DID not either. An almost priest! He said Kenyans practice their traditonal religion and pretend in front of Christians that donate, they belive. He said Kenyans don't really. That the do want to preserve their culture no matter what the cost and that he can recite the bible better than most priests but that he loved free sex, drugs and men and women too much to live a Christian life. He said in Kenya men and women share each othter. They have traditonal polygamous marriages that are not blessed or performed in a church. They just shack up and have kids. If a best friend wants his wife, he will leave the house and come back later. When the man dies, the woman is thrown into the streets, literally. His family will not take care of her because he is dead now. She cannot go back to her own family because they will consider that bad luck. The only way she can not be homeless is to sleep with his brother. Yes! MY boyfriend bought this up when we were talking about marriage and he would get very jealous if I ever asked about any of his brother's. Even just their health or if they had children. Well, can't say I didn't warn you. I read about some of this on the net and said, not my Kenyan. But God is good. He made me see before it got even worse. You see, I think his next move is to bring his Kenyan wife and 2 kids over next on his fake-marriage American wife's dime and she doesn't even know. I have already told her and then I walked away, from them all. Never, ever ever again. I have traveled the world. Married a Saudi and a Puerto Rican, so I am not prejudiced in any way, but no, just can't. I tried to help. Took him to my church. fasted and prayed for him and his family, and my thanks, was ??? He told me he was out to destroy me. I asked him why? He said because he was born corrupt and will die corrupt and will wait for his fellow priest-friends all around the world, to join him in hell and for me not to try and save his soul. Just let him go there. I bought a new printer, I am going back to school and have made new female friends. I also go to therapy. I am fine but some women (and men they harm) are not as strong as I am. What about them? What about them. Lord, Lord, Lord, thank you for hearing my prayers and keeping is weaponry from harming me. I am still alive. I am still sane. I am still beautiful.

Slept in one of his 20 friends houses. They could never find him to serve him! He is still stalking me. He called me just last nite 2x. Some nights, it's 8 times. I never answer. He will leave cigarettes around my yard and water bottles. It has been 3 months and he still harrasses me. Be more careful. I found out thru him, that 40% of my apt 200 unit apt complex have Kenyans. I have met at least 25 of them. It is no lie. They watch me and call him and tell him what I am doing. He said if he ever sees another man take me home he doesn't know what he will do, but he know he will lose his mind! He drinks at least 6 beers w vodka in the same glass, every single day. He uses drugs. HOW did I not know you say? Because in the beginning he never did it in front of me and would talk so bad about men who drank. The greatest con. He told me Kenyans were number 1 at scamming and that He liked it that way. He has over 160 facebook friends, Russian, Kenyan, Mexican girls etc. ON my birtday he text his Russian girl-who dumped him saying he didn't make enuf money-and asked her to meet him in a hotel. She said no and he told her he will kill her if he sees her with another man. I was absolutely nothing special. I asked why?

More?
by: De.

The Catholic Church paid for his ticket and student visa. He was 2 years away from taking the vows but once he got here, he had left the church after only 3 months. The Catholic church reported to immigrations for falseness and misrepresentation. They didn't even know he had changed his name and birthdate. The tribes stick together, he is Kikuyu, they found him is low-esteemed wife and paid his bail. He proposed marriage. He did not want me to work but told everyone he did. But he broke my printer on the day I was to have an interview. Could not take a resume. He put super glue in my car lock so I couldn't go anywhere. He threatened to beat me when I told him to get out and I was going to continue my independent life. He told me he could do 7 years for killing me, go back home to Kenya and nobody would know back home, he would start a new life, so he really didn't care. One time I came home from the 1st day on the job and his best friend had been wearing my houseshoes! The tribe will lie, cheat and steal for each other. When I wourld try to leave again and again, they would all come to my door and say how he loved me, he slept in the van, etc. In his crazy way, he did. But I mean crazy. He slept with his best friend and his wife. Yes! And he convinced me to be friends with her before I found out. How convenient. They believe in Voodoo. She had put her toenails under my door mat. I taped them to a paper and dated it for the courts. They then tried to kill me by poisoning. They put something in my drinking water bottle. I threw up for 3 days. When I kicked him out (by being nice-you can never be too mean) he took the trash can that I had gotten sick in and threw it into the dumpster. So there would be no evidence. I went to the autorities and got a restraing order. or at least tired. The authorities believed they tried to kill me but he kept moving around, he changed his job.

The male Kenyan
by: D.

Then I found out he had a wife and 2 kids back home. Then I found out he would participate in all night parties with men and women, if you know what I mean. He asked my to help him pay for his visa. I gave him $300. 1/2. He had me call around for attorneys. Do you know what I found out when I went on the internet and did a thorough search. ( I had done the search before and not so much came up. I had met him at church 3 years ago, so thought he was a good man ). After we broke up, he told me he had the visa, laughed at me in front of my face and told me that adulturous affairs in Kenya was better than American ways because at least he would never be divorced.! Using me is an understatement. And do you believe he got here by claiming he wanted to be a Catholic priest!

You cannot trust his lies.

Let me tell you the absolute truth. My kenyan boyfriend of nearly a year. Only moved on me to cover his gayness. Yes, he was gay. His boyfriend, his best friend lived 2 blocks away. In Kenya, homosexulaity is seriously not allowed. I am telling you that there was no way I knew. I asked him point blank and he would yell and scream, no it was a sin in the bible etc. He went to church every Sunday or so I was told, and was even on 3 church boards. Then a woman walked in on them. He had moved in with me because he told me he was from Kenya and had no friends and that he was going to be homeless. I offered him my place for 1 month till he found his own. He stayed here 6 months. He would not leave!!! I would kick him out and had a key. One night he kicked the door in. He had at least 20 other women. He told me he did not have a visa. He told me he was not married. I found out he was married to a 300 lb white woman who threw dirty diapers in the front yard. ( I like all people, but the Kenyans are fascinated by white women)

@ Nicole, If you present yourself like a lady you will get treated like a lady. In response to GOD ETC, you first need to understand the Bible because if you let someone else interpret the Bible for you, you will always be confused. @ Magistrate, Kenyans are not the only culture that "hunt for sex". @ Curious American Woman- follow your heart and always let God be your Guide. And yes it would be nice if everyone who posts could keep it clean and not air out their dirty laundry. I am still in a relationship with my Kenyan and very proud.

Re - get to know the man, not the continent
by: curious american woman

Thanks to the Kenyan who posted today. Probably the most intelligent comment so far. Also, keeping God in the relationship and praying together and reading the Bible together is something I agree with. It would be nice if everyone who posts here could keep it clean and on-topic. My Kenyan gentleman friend has shown himself to be godly, thoughtful, intelligent, kind, respectful, and financially responsible as well as tender-hearted and emotionally transparent and open to me. He's not a game player at all. I continue to fall more deeply in love with him and he with me and I've come to the conclusion that I am willing to relocate to Kenya when the Lord shows us that the time has come for that. I'm also willing to deal with what I'm sure will be a considerable adjustment to the culture(s), climate and living conditions. That's what happens when two people find each other and love each other. There will always be some degree of sacrifice one for the other throughout the years.

Hi
I am a Kenyan and agree with some of you that the African society is still largely male dominated. To be specific Kenya has a diverse social setting. It really depends on the man's upbringing and the people he interacts with. The tribal issues should not be a problem if the man loves you. Anyway listen to your instincts but factor in what I have just told you. If you wish to engage me further email edlangat@ mail.com

about relocating to Pokot
by: Anonymous

Am a Kenyan man the best advice i can give you is first go and visit Pokot and see how it is for yourself. If you like it, then move there but if not and you are determined to stay in Kenya then maybe you could find a more neutral place like Nairobi or Mombasa which are by far more developed and have the amenities you are used to.

Life in Kenya vs. US
by: curious american woman

Thanks to everyone for their comments. I think many of the negative observations could be made of many American men as well. Things continue to develop between me and the man I met in Kenya 2 months ago. He has 3 children from 2 previous relationships (not marriages) who now live with him and his mother. He also supports his sister's 4 kids. It looks like if we were to marry, I'd be the one relocating to Kenya. Does anyone have any insights into what life is like in the Pokot region? I'm not sure precisely where he is, but from what I've read online, parts of Pokot are extremely remote and undeveloped. I respect that he has taken responsibility for his children. I'm not sure what I'd be getting myself into in this situation, but continuing to pray and follow God's leading. Any insights would be appreciated.

You are right. They love education as well as eating the right foods. My fiancee is stubborn at times but its not enough to complain about. I really enjoy the attention that he gives me. I plan to live the rest of my life with this man.

Kenyan Men
by: Diane

I can't speak for all Kenyan men but my relationship is great. We havent met each other families yet but we have talked on the phone. He has been to the states and I will join him in Kenya in a few months because I plan to tour other areas as well. To me he's no different than an American man.

Life is far too short...... if it makes you happy
by: Cat

Hi
Thanks everyone for your comments. I have met a lovely Kenyan man from Nairobi. I live in London UK. It was very interesting to read about the cultural differences and the attitudes to woman. Talking to Jo, I can see that cultually the ethics and morals are still very set and old fashioned. For example attitudes to single parents, gay relationships etc. Also the family ethic of caring for each other and expanding families. It reminds me of the UK pre 1960's, which was not all bad. Jo works very hard, long hours, he has his own business. He treats me with love and respect and I feel happier than I should be allowed. Currrently we live in our respective countries, which makes it difficult at the moment....but talk several times a day. We are still developing our relationship but I hope one day that we will be living together. What I hate are so called friends who don't do their homework before they open their mouths. And are so insulting in your best interest or because we care about you. Life is too short, ok think before you jump, but if it makes you feel happy.......

question for Diane
by: curious american woman

Hi Diane, I'm an american who just met a man in Kenya from the Pokot region. We are both Christians. We have been in touch through email. He seems like a very decent responsible man and I'm very drawn to him, but I'm also concerned about the differences between our backgrounds. I'm curious how you met your fiance and I wonder how things are going for you.

yes and no
by: stephen omondi

i beleive that marrage is God given and we should cherish our partners for better or for worse regarding to this topic their is no direct answer to this.I beleive the two partners holds the key to the success of the marriege where you either choose to be locked in the cultural practises or not.Nothing against these practises but i'm rather type that would keep the best ones and lock out the bad culture that hinders growth and prosperity.Same to the american women they should have an open mind about Africans in general we all equal and our strengths are so different if only we can acknowlege that a work as a team am sorry we cant make not only in marriege but as partners.

Kenyan man
by: Anonymous

i understand you very well but have come to terms with the growing news of a Kenyan man been battered by their wife? The culture may be different but i believe a Kenyan man can adopt anywhere in the world as long as he allows himself to learn and understand, we men don't usually hate to talk, but the language we use Sims an-understandable to most women. first try and understand how he communicates best before you make a choice

experience
by: struggles

I have been married to a kenyan for a very long time. I stay and put up with his family wanting him to support them over him supporting me and our children, lies, investing back home, stingy with money, and very secrative,non-emotional, drinker. Even after all said I stay; why?" children, beliefs, love, and I have invested so much into him. (papers, school, children, cars,$) Deep down once you understand their ways, I do believe he loves me. You just have to look deep. It's not all bad, good times are really good and make it worth it.

Violent kenyan men
by: shikow

Anonymous i wud like to strongly disagree with your version of Kenyan men. That scenario is unique to your husband. Not al men are the same and am sure that in America there are also equally violent men. I think when you get into a relationship you should get to know your partner before you walk down the isle.Bottom line is not all kenyan men get drunk and beat their wives.

Thank you Anonymous for your response. I assure you that I have never been in an abusive relationship and if this relationship gets to that point I will not stay in the relationship. In your opinion what is the % of Kenyans that dislike Americans marrying Kenyans?

DON'T WALK AWAY...... RUN AS FAST AS YOU CAN!!!
by: Anonymous

Me: American White Woman. Him: Kenyan Black Male.

Good luck to YOU. After 5 years of being emotionally beaten down, I can tell you that it was a HUGE mistake to ever get involved.

MOST KENYAN MEN ARE DRUNKEN WOMANIZING WIFE BEATERS WITH DOUBLE STANDARDS WHO ALL BACK EACH OTHER UP. FIRST TIME YOU DO SOMETHING HE THINKS IS WRONG, YOU WILL BE CHASTIZED HUMILIATED TALKED BAD ABOUT AND ALL THE KENYANS IN HIS TRIBE WILL BE AGAINST YOU AND YOU WILL BECOME AN OBJECT OF HATRED AND SOMEONE TO BE TALKED BADLY ABOUT. GOD FORBID YOU DECIDE TO MOVE TO KENYA, HE WILL OWN YOU AND THE GSU WILL BEAT YOU UP IF YOU DISOBEY YOUR HUSBAND. IF YOU HAVE CHILDREN AND HE DECIDES TO DATE ANOTHER WOMAN, ALL HE HAS TO DO IS THROW YOU AND YOUR CHILDREN OUT OF HIS HOUSE AND YOU WILL BE LIVING IN THE STREETS. THERE IS NO RESPECT FOR WOMEN BY KENYAN MEN. THEY BELIEVE THEY CAN KILL THEIR WIVES AND WHEN THEY DO, THE POLICE DO NOTHING.

kenyan marriages
by: shikow

It will depend on your in laws but i think Kenyans have become very open minded with inter cultural marriages. Just talk with your fiancee and try learn some basic things about their specific culture coz Kenya has many tribal groupings and the culture will vary from the tribe. All the best.

Inter cultural marriage..
by: MrsIvory

HI Diane,

Iam ( still) married with a Kenyan man and can tell you alot about it. However out of privacy protection I cant publish all here. But I can give some advice though.

Both of you have to show interest in each other cultures. Communication between you and your partner is very important. Learn about the traditions, the differences, the family traditions, sharing holidays, bring up children, values in life and talk.. talk.. very important.

In any marriage, doesnt matter if inter cultural or not.. communication and respect are most important. It is not the culture only what makes the man or woman. but the mentality of the person on his/her own.

You have to know the back ground and ask him about he thinks of certain issues which are important in your life. An African man is stroung bounded with his family but ones you have your own family then he should give priority to you and your children!

There are indeed differences in African men and Americans or Europeans. I have learned that men in general are not really comfortable when it comes up to talking.. communicating.. but an African man really dont like to talk/ listen about problems..

Indeed many African men dont respect women at all or believe they are only good enough for the kitchen..and to make sure that they ( the men) have a comfortable life. However it is changing these days and the younger generation is different.

African men are more emotionally inbounded.

I believe though that it can work. If the relationship is based on faith, trust, respect for each other, recognizing each others differences and back grounds.. and like I said talk before.. and not when it is to late..If you want to know more from me. ask the moderator for my email contact...

there will be a number of cultural differences in such marriage:

Men still consider themselves as superior to women in Kenya...if your partner thinks differently, it is likely that his family and friends may think otherwise

Kenyans are group-oriented while Americans are individual-oriented. In group oriented societies, people have some social duties towards their group: your future husband will have to say yes to any relative coming to ask for financial support... sharing things is common for them.

Saving face is very important for Kenyans...might they be wrong, they rather lie than admitting it especially in front of an audience

They may be tempted to spend a lot of money just to show to others that they have a high social status...

Hope this helps...good luck
