Bringing food (Haggis) into Kenya?

by Gerard Dolan
(Paisley, Scotland)

Can small gift of Haggis for consumption by friend be brought into Kenya by visitors arriving in Nairobi from Scotland?

We discussed the Scottish delicay with Kenyans we met on our last visit and hoped we might bring a small sample for them to taste. We would bring this in our luggage when we arrive by plane.

Haggis Recipes

Gerard,

Have a look at this website and see how easy it is to make your own haggis in Kenya. In fact I wouldnt be surprised if there is a similar dish somewhere in the Kenyan recipe books.

Haggis & Neeps
by: Archie Melrose

A few years ago when visiting my daughter/son in law in Cayman Islands they had asked me to bring Haggis. I took the chance and packed 2 in the suitcase flying via Miami. No problems but on reflection I dont think the Customs in the USA would have been happy about it.
If you look at the Kenyan Revenue Customs declaration forms you will see that you have to declare certain items and 'food products' is one of those. Now how the Customs Officer will be able to figure out the amount of tax due on a 'haggis', I would love to know. It might be easier if you buy the haggis packet mix here in Scotland and some pre-prepared boil in the bags.
Get the ground meat/mince in Kenya and make your own.

Archie
