Cassandra and Arjen are quite right about the hospitality/smiles of the Kenyan people regardless of which tribe they come from. I have just returned from Nakuru in the Rift Valley and while ordinary people from different tribes work side by side, when it comes to political issues, then tensions can creep in.
Television and newspapers report daily on the latest Government interventions or lack of them. I have seen citizens crowded around newspaper sellers just to read the latest political scandals. I think this may be due to a coalition type of government with the 2 heads being from different tribes.
Hope this helps

Safe by: Cassandra Marie
Kenya is a safe place. Personally I was there when things happened in 2007 and 2008. The whole time I was there I saw the UN and government working to help stop the escalating fighting and not once did I feel unsafe.I have even gone back and planning to head over again this year because how safe I feel traveling and working in Kenya. In some areas it was bad...but for the most part in the town I was in it was neighbor taking care of neighbor as much as they could.
As stated in the last post Kenya is and has been a very stable country in Africa. Kenyans are friendly and kind. If you are worried about your safety while traveling in Kenya I would not fear. Also if you make friends in Kenya you will make some GREAT friends. Kenyans are known for their hospitality and great smiles!

Peace in Kenya by: Arjen (webmaster)
The troubles in Kenya in early 2008 lasted rather shortly. Peace returned quickly after representatives from the major tribes have formed one coalition government.
There are still some serious issues to tackle around land ownership and federalism in Kenya, but if the government succeeds in this, Kenya can be peaceful forever. Kenya has always been one of the most peaceful and stable countries in Africa.
